Food inspection

Seeing in the dark

  • Conventional absorption contrast X-ray inspection is widely used to detect metal and stone contaminants
  • Little or no sensitivity to plastic contaminants
  • Bone fragments difficult to detect when the flesh components in the product vary in thickness, shape, orientation, etc.
  • IBEX technology detects contaminants via a difference in materials, rather than absorption

Example studies have been carried out on a range of food products – detecting plastic in chocolate bars and chocolate wafer bars, bone fragments in chicken and glass particles in glass jars of puréed baby food.  Visit our Resources pages for details.
